GRIN 25thAnniversary LogoIn 1992, a group of Golden Retriever enthusiasts who had the foresight to see the need for rehoming unwanted Golden Retrievers incorporated Golden Retrievers In Need Rescue service as a 501C3 non-profit organization.  They were truly the forerunners of rescue since back in the ‘90’s, rescue was not a common practice.  We are excited to share that 2017 marks GRIN’s 25th year of rescue; saving well over 3,000 homeless Goldens.  Marking 25 years is a milestone which everyone should be proud of.  Together, we can do anything and we do!  We will be celebrating our 25th anniversary in a variety of ways from a very special Golden Gala celebration you won’t want to miss, to custom anniversary bling to GRIN window clings and other anniversary memorabilia throughout 2017.

Through the years, GRIN has evolved and continues to morph into the organization we are today. This would not have happened without the talents of our dedicated volunteers who go beyond the call of duty every day, our membership, friends and all who fund the organization’s financial needs.  This year, your GRIN Board of Directors has some major endeavors on the horizon.   We are embarking on a new website since our existing website platform is no longer supported; since we have more adopters than available Goldens, we will be fundraising for the airfare to rescue more homeless Goldens from Turkey who would never have their own home without rescue; we will be expanding our social media presence and continuing to seek other fundraising opportunities to name a few.  We are also looking for ways to engage more of our membership in GRIN activities and expand our foster and volunteer base.  Keys to our organization’s success are planning ahead, flexibility and projecting needs.  We are frugal and good stewards of our organizations finances, maximizing them to meet the individual needs of each Golden who comes into GRIN’s care.

Get your calendar out!  We have a variety of events planned in 2017 for our members and friends.   Your Golden Retriever or friendly dog is invited to all of our park events!

  • March 11th is our K9-911 Program after our membership meeting at the Independence library.   Come to find out about trauma, do we need to go to the ER and more.  Presented by Dr. Jeni Gaffney, DVM, owner of The Visiting Vet in Bath.
  • A late April mystery event is being reviewed for feasibility.   Watch our website for details.  It will be a GRIN first and fun human evening event.
  • May 13th is our 3rd Annual Volunteer Appreciation Event at the Independence Library.
  • May 21st is the 5th Annual Bark in the Park at Oak Grove Pavilion in Brecksville Metro Parks.  Your Golden is getting ready for the walk and sniffing!  Lunch, raffles & more
  • July 16th is our 3rd Annual I “Scream” Social at Oak Grove Pavilion, Brecksville Metro Park.   Ice Cream for humans and K9’s, raffles & more!
  • October 8th will be a first for us.  We will be combining the Annual Picnic & Howl O Ween Party at Oak Grove Pavilion, Brecksville Metro Parks.
  • October 21st is our 25th Anniversary Celebration at our Golden Gala. We are back at St. Michael’s Woodside Party Center.

All of the events listed need your support from being on a committee, sponsoring, donating a raffle prize or item, helping an hour at the event to attending them to make them successful.  We can assure you that you will make some friends with a common interest and have a great time too.

So, as we begin 2017, we and all of the Goldens who have passed through GRIN’s loving doors, thank each one of you for your dedication and support of GRIN.  We cannot do it without you.
