I am sure everyone has noticed the CONNECT WITH US at the bottom of our front page with a link that takes you to the Twitter website. The question is, what does this do for G.R.I.N. and how does it help our members and visitors? I am writing this article to hopefully explain how this can be beneficial for current members as well as someone that is looking to adopt a Golden or looking for information about Goldens.

First things first...

What is Twitter?

Twitter is a social networking and microblogging service that enables its users to send and read messages known as tweets. Tweets are text-based posts of up to 140 characters displayed on the author's profile page and delivered to the author's subscribers who are known as followers. Senders can restrict delivery to those in their circle of friends or, by default, allow open access.

How does this help G.R.I.N. members and visitors?

G.R.I.N now uses Twitter to announce new and modified articles and events that have been posted to the website. When a member or someone interested in G.R.I.N. creates a Twitter account and follows GRIN_Rescue. they will see a post every time an article has been created or modified on the website. A person following G.R.I.N. can also have followers (people that follow that person). Anyone following G.R.I.N. can "ReTweet" a notification of G.R.I.N. allowing it to reach people that might not know about us. Think of Twitter as a real time news feed for G.R.I.N.

Why follow G.R.I.N. when I can just go to the website to see updates?

G.R.I.N. updates the website constantly and many of the articles are not published to the front page. Each Twitter post has a link to that particular article that has been modified or created. This makes it easier to keep informed so you will not miss something you might be interested in.

I have created an account, and am following GRIN_Rescue, can I receive these notices without going to the Twitter website?

Yes, if you have an advanced feature phone or smart phone. There are applications you can load on your phone that will send a notification when an article is created or modified so you can see when a New Golden has arrived, Foster updates on Current Goldens and when one has been adopted as well as upcoming events and other information. You can also configure Twitter to send TXT/SMS messages to your phone if you do not have an advanced feature or smart phone.

What kind of information will be sent to Twitter?

The sections of the website that we have configured to be sent to Twitter include:

Featured Goldens
Health and Safety Information
Product Recalls
General Information
Upcoming Events
Latest News

Twitter is just one more way we are striving to keep our members and "followers" informed of what is happening with our organization. Remember, Twitter is not meant to replace the need to visit this site and there are areas of the site that are not sent to Twitter.

Remember Me? Bella

Hi my name is Bella and I asked my mom to send some pictures to you. I am having a great time and love my new home and my new mom. I have been learning how to sit/stay, down/stay, come, off, leave it, walk on the leash, jump, touch, retrieve my ball, and lots more. This learning is fun but I still have trouble remembering it all the time.

I know I will get better it just takes practice. This weekend mom says I am going to learn how to stay in my yard. Then I will be able to run around and chase the ball without having a leash on. I am really good at barking and letting mom know I have to go outside. That's good, cause I get to enjoy the fresh air each time. I also have met my best friend Obie.
