Shurkon: Female 10 years old

This Golden gal is going to be a great companion for the lucky adopter!  She's angelic, and loves people.  She moves just a smidge slower from time to time, mainly due to her weight—she's 78 lbs.—and we suspect she has arthritis.  She's smart as a whip and her temperament suggests she will bond very quickly to her new owner!  If you haven't filled out an application yet, get to it.  This gem will find her forever home quickly.

Foster Update: 12/10/13

Madam Shurkon has been with me for a couple of weeks now, and one of the first things I’ve noticed is her zest for life and how happy this girl is. With good reason. You see, when she first came to GRIN two years ago from a shelter, she was deemed not adoptable due to having a tumor that was inoperable. At best she was given three months, so we made her as comfortable as possible with all of us heartbroken that this petite girl would be gone so soon. On her following check-up and scan, we were all amazed that there was no sign of the tumor whatsoever. The vet surmised that it dissolved and was absorbed or expelled out of her system. She is GRIN’s little miracle girl and is on the hunt for her perfect forever home.

Shurkon needs a home with a physical fence and no other dogs in residence. She is well mannered and keeps herself occupied with bones and toys, the latter of which she sometimes shreds. She has never bothered anything in the house that wasn’t hers so that’s reason enough to spoil her with plenty of toys of her own.

She is on pain management meds for slight arthritis, but still enjoys a good 1/4 mile walk on a daily basis; rain or shine. She isn’t afraid of thunderstorms or fireworks and will just perk her head up to listen, then lay back down or do whatever it was she was doing at the time she heard it. She has good leash manners and does have a tendency to weave in different directions when she sniffs something she wants to check out.

One of the many cute things she does is right at mealtime or when she’s getting a treat; she will throw her head back and bounce on her front paws in excitement. She loves to get belly rubs and will lay at your feet to get them. She is also a leaner and will try to get as close to you as possible in order to get all the loving she can, of which she returns twofold with her happy to be alive demeanor. She sits and takes treats gently and has no problems with being petted when she’s eating. She has a very good appetite, as do most of the goldens I’ve ever known.

Shurkon has run of the main level of the house and is trustworthy when I’m at work. I initially crated her, but she doesn’t need it. She has no problems settling down at night with her PB bone bedtime snack.

Please consider opening your heart and home to Shurkon. Everyone in the GRIN organization who has met her has fallen in love with her so you won’t be disappointed if you take the chance on this older girl who has so much life and love to give.
