Dakota’s a product of a divorce and he slipped through the cracks. It’s a sad story and there’s no need to go into detail, but the bottom line is that this gentle Golden came into G.R.I.N. malnourished, weighing only 38 lbs., and dehydrated. He was crated long hours and is more than likely heartbroken. He has wonderful qualities; he’s calm, great with kids, dogs and cats and walks well on leash. One of our volunteer walkers spent time with him, simply petting him, and she said this of Dakota, “He knows the golden nudge and spent time close to me. When I stopped petting, he reminded me to keep going. After about twenty minutes with him he started talking to me, little moans, it was a hoot. Then the tail started wagging. He is a sweetheart.” He yearns to be loved and be with his people. Could he be your new Golden family member?
Update: 2/27/13
Sweet Dakota was diagnosed with lymphoma at the beginning of February and only has a few months left to live. He is happy, has gained some much needed weight, and is well loved and cared for by his foster mom & dad. Dakota will remain with his foster family until it is time for him to cross the Rainbow Bridge. Thank you for all your continued prayers and support for this wonderful boy!

Dakota may be thin but he has so much love and trust in those big brown eyes that it will melt your heart...for sure!! What a wonderful boy! He gets along great with the two resident Golden's and has settled into the daily routine with no problems. He loves tennis balls and ALWAYS has one in his mouth! He has proven to be trustworthy around food...even though he is always hungry, and has not done any counter surfing! His house manners are impeccable! Dakota loves attention and will surrender his ball with the "release" command. He will chase it and return as long as you will play. He continues to gain some much needed weight and is a truly beautiful deep red boy. He walks very nicely on a leash and is friendly to all he meets...both animal and human. He will bark when he hears a noise...no one can sneak up on his family!! As he gets stronger, more and more of his personality emerges and this is a love bug disguised as a Golden Retriever! He deserves a special family that will love and take care of him forever. Maybe it's you?!
Needs to have a fenced environment.
