Bear: Male 2 years old

People tell me I am the most sweet, loveable, kissy, huggable boy ever! I also love dogs and adore kids. It just isn’t fair that such a fabulous guy like me also has some hip and leg problems. GRIN is going to consult a specialist to see how they can help me so watch for updates.

Foster Update 05-22-2009:

Bear is doing very well in his foster home. He is friendly and loves the children in his home and follows them around the house. He loves getting up on their beds to look out the window too! Bear has been fine with the resident cats, but if he is in a playful mood he will chase them, but does not try and hurt them. He gets along well with the resident dogs. Bear does like to chew and needs direction in what he is and isn’t allowed to chew on. He is housebroken and does very well in his crate when his foster family isn’t home. Bear loves to be brushed and his favorite pastime is hiding his toys in his dog bed! Bear is a joy to have around. He will be going to a specialist in the upcoming weeks to see what his options are for surgery. Check back for further information and updates on this sweet boy!

Foster update 07/22/ 2009

Bear is recovering nicely from his surgery and if the Xray looks good his external fixator should come off his leg mid august. The specialist is pleased with his progress and bear has not let it slow him down any more than it has to. Bears foster family cant say enough good things about him and says he is a pure joy to have around. He likes to be wherever his foster family is and especially loves his "kids" who he follows around and sits by their feet whenever he can. The kids are generous with their bear hugs and he loves every minute of it. He also enjoys the company of the other dogs and cats in his foster home. He's good on  his walks on the leash although he still does pull occassionally, something that can easily be addressed when he is allowed to walk further and participate in some training. Bear is going to make someone a wonderful furever friend.

Foster update 08-14-09

On Wednesday, Bear had a recheck with the specialist treating his leg.  He is going to need to have the fixator on another month and will most likey be removed on Sept 9th. Bear continues to learn new things and seems to be very smart. The other night he was resting beside foster moms bed. He laid down, but the dog bed wasn't quite where he wanted it so he pulled it closer to him with his teeth and laid his head on the bed. He is also is improving greatly with his leash manners. He follows his foster parents and the kids around wherever they go and will be a very loyal and sweet family dog.

Foster update 09-14-09

Bear had his fixator removed on 9/9/09 and is beginning to put weight on his surgical leg. He will get rechecked at the end of the month and if all is well begin his last stage of recovery, therapy! Bear continues to be a very  loving dog, getting along great with cats, kids, and everyone he meets. He will very soon be ready for his forever home.

Foster update 10-18-2009

Bear has been doing wonderfully.  He is using his leg a lot more and is gaining muscle mass. He does very well in rehab and is walking well in the treadmill filled with water.  I can see an improvement with the therapy in both his range of motion and strength.  I also work with him at home with his range of motion and massages.  Bear loves the massages and also loves to be brushed. He also does great when I give him a bath.  He gets along great with my other dogs and cats, although he does chase the cats when he is in a playful mood. Bear goes back to the orthopedic specialist, on November 10, as a recheck to see his leg, and how he is doing with rehab.

You can tell Bear is feeling better, because he is hiding his toys again.  He wasn't doing that for awhile, when the fixator was on.  Yesterday, when I was cleaning, I looked under my bed, and I saw a bunch of tennis balls under the bed.  He loves tennis balls.  I keep a laundry basket full of toys in my room, which has stuffed animals, tennis balls, and a few ropes in it.  Both goldens go in it throughout the day, and take whatever they want to play with, and take it to another part of the house to play with it.
