On hold - New Update! My Very Special Sponsors: James and Sharon Schoenegge Angel: Female 11 years oldHer name fits her, that’s for sure! She was pulled from a shelter and we are told that Angel is her real name, but we do not know why she ended up there. She is blind due to cataracts, but she is doing very well in foster care and she has three “brothers” to help her learn the lay of the land. Even though she cannot see you, Angel will know you are that special person that will love her just as she is. |

Angel is perfectly named, She has been living in a house with 3 Golden brothers for 2 weeks now. So far we've learned that she gets along with other dogs, she does well with baths, blow dryers, ear cleanings, brushings, car rides, walking on a leash and does stairs really well. She eagerly tries to learn the lay of the land; you may forget she's blind. And when she does find you, you can't help but feel special. Angel will be a great addition to a caring home. In exchange for your love and kindness, she will give you kisses and a wag of her tail. Foster update: 9/14/09 After eight weeks in our home, we have yet to discover any bad habits in sweet Angel. She has no fears, and likes everyone she's met. She loves her routines (cookies after her last time outside) and she knows where to stand for her food bowl. Angel is independent; if we stay up too late; she goes upstairs without us and takes her position next to the bed. When she hears us coming to bed, she slaps the floor with her tail and when we kiss her good night, she kisses us back. Angel will be a great addition to a loving home.
Foster update: 11/7/09 Because everyone needs a place to call their own, we bought Angel her very own bed. She likes it very much. She also enjoys walking through the fallen leaves - the deeper the pile, the better. this past weekend she volunteered at her local library in their reading to the dog program. The way she concentrates on the readers' voice, you'd never know she's blind. Her tail wags the entire time. Please contact GRIN to schedule a meet with this special lady. Foster update: 11/20/09 Angel has learned two new games! She has learned to play floor tapping tag…it gives her the giggles! She has also been playing with a jingle ball that she rolls back to her foster parents. Despite Angel’s blindness she loves to play…how cool is that?! You won’t want to miss out on meeting this sweetie for sure!
Foster update: 2/3/10 Another sad day for G.R.I.N. as Angel was diagnosed with an aggressive lymphoma. Angel is well loved in her foster home and will remain with her foster mom and dad and foster siblings until it is time for her to cross the Rainbow Bridge. Foster Update: 2/10/10 A thank you and update from Angel herself:
My Foster Dad just read the update from 2/3/10; it says I have an aggressive cancer. I can’t believe it...I feel great!!!
My foster dad, bother Gus, and I got strapped into our seatbelt harnesses and took a road trip to Sandusky this past week. Sandusky is where the Schoenegges, my special G.R.I.N. sponsors, work. It was a great afternoon! I received so many hugs and kisses from my special friends. We played my favorite floor tapping game, they thought it was a hoot and I got so excited I banged into the wall. Not to worry, I do that all the time. The afternoon went by so quickly and when it was time to go home, I tried to drag my feet but dad said we had to go.
Everyone was so nice I hated to leave; I have such nice memories of that day. Jim and Sharon Schoenegge whispered in my ear before I left. They said they would be coming to visit me in the near future. Mom and dad already gave their permission. I’m so excited they will be coming to my house; I will show them my special bed and where my brothers and I hang out.
Since I’ve been diagnosed with the cancer things have not changed, I am just as active as always, and I’m still eating and drinking and just plain loving life. If things change I’ll let you know. Right now I am a happy Golden Retriever. Thank you everyone for your support and prayers!
Foster Update: 3/24/10 On March 6th Angel became an honorary “Tales to a Dog” reading buddy at the Wickliffe Library. She and her foster brother Gus have gone to the library for the past three Saturdays and enjoyed listening to the local grade school kids read to them. Angel loved listening to the kids read her books like Go Dog Go and Tales of the Frog and the Toad. She most enjoyed the Dr. Seuss books. Angel’s health is still good, she is not showing any outward signs of having cancer other than the lymph node in her neck has gotten a little bigger but it is not causing her any trouble. She continues to eat and drink well and is enjoying her surroundings. Back in February Angel had two tumors removed from her left ear. Her ear is healed and with the tumors gone her ear stays cleaner much longer. We were hoping that with the tumors gone she would hear better but that was not to be. She still hears backward, so we’ve learned that if you want her to go in a particular direction you need to call to her when she is looking away from you, then she’ll turn around and begin to approach. It’s odd but that’s our Angel! Angel’s sponsor family, the Schoenegges, will be coming to visit her in April and she is very excited about the visit. We had such a good time when we went to Sandusky last month. Foster Update: 6/4/10 Angel continues to love life! She loves to go for a walk and gets very happy during her walks with her head up, strutting down the street. She loves the attention and love she receives from her foster family as well as special visitors. She has had to go to the vet recently for some treatment for an ear infection as well as some eye irritation which is a side effect of her lymphoma. She is now on daily eye drops and knows after her meal to go and stand by the medicine cabinet for her drops…what a smart girl! Her lymphoma has progressed, but not to the point of affecting her quality of life. This sweet girl continues to love life and enjoys sitting in the warm sunshine! |
