Barking News:

My Very Special Sponsor: Miss Mabel Jesse

Mabel: 2-3 years old

Heartworm positive Mabel is an owner relinquishment.  G.R.I.N. is ensuring she receives the proper and immediate treatment required.  Mabel will need to be kept quiet for 6 weeks…no easy feat with a youngster!  She is loveable and huggable.  Mabel enjoys other dogs and kids, too.  She’s on the smaller side, but she makes up for it in charm.

Foster Update: 2/24/10

Mabel is a loveable girl.  She loves to chew her marrow bones.  Mabel’s foster mom gave her a fresh one the other day, but since she was leaving for work, Mabel had to go in her crate.  Mabel went in her crate, but gave her foster mom a look and wouldn’t chew on her bone…it was very funny!  All was forgiven though when her foster mom came home that night as she greeted her with the bone in her mouth!  Mabel is a very smart girl!

Foster Update: 3/12/10

Mabel is without exception the smartest G.R.I.N. dog that we have fostered.  We know this because she has learned so much in such a small amount of time.  The simple commands of sit, stay, and come were mastered immediately.  Mabel was afraid to walk upstairs but she has mastered that nicely now.  Mabel loves to be loved, she plays well with the resident dog, gives love and licks when it's time to eat, and loves her ball and will retrieve for as long as you are willing to throw it.  Mabel loves people and children and is content to lie anywhere near her foster family.  She is crated when her foster family leaves the house, but they are fairly confident she would be okay with having the run of the house.  Like all retrievers she always has something in her mouth to bring to them.  Mabel will bark a little to show her dissatisfaction with her foster mom if she knows she is going for a walk without her, but she gets over it quickly.  She also loves to go for a car ride. Her foster family hasn't been able to walk her since she is heartworm positive, but because she is so smart and wants to please, they are sure with a little training she will learn to walk nicely on a leash.  The forever family that Mabel chooses will be very lucky indeed since she will bring to them so much love and happiness!
