Ferguson: Male 5 years old

Ferguson came to G.R.I.N. via a shelter; someone dropped him there citing he was a stray, but shelter officials felt he probably had been used for breeding.  He was severely matted – originally it was thought that “he” was a “she” because of the matting – and very much neglected.  Now that this big guy’s been shaved and it’s apparent he is a boy – Ferguson feels much better.  He’s got a crazy (but in a good way) personality.  Ferguson’s very Velcro-like and likes to charm the ladies.  He’ll be even more delighted when he realizes that he’s won the doggie lottery and will land in a forever home…where he’s fed, hugged and doted on all the time!

Foster Update: 8/5/11
The first order of business was to get Fergy to the groomer.  He was looking really goofy from having all the mats removed and some hot spots attended to.  When he left the groomer he looked like a handsome dog, but unfortunately, the only thing "Golden" about his new do is his ears and the tip of his tail.  This will all grow back and if his face is any indication, he will be a good looking Golden Retriever!
Fergy is overweight and is on a calorie restricted diet that will need to be continued for some time.  Frequent short walks and swimming would do him a world of good.
Fergy is very quiet friendly and affectionate.  He and the resident Golden get along wonderfully.  Fergy is fine with the resident cat and the cat has accepted him as a part of the family.  He is a Velcro Golden and wants to be at your side all the time.  He will cuddle with whomever is on the couch or lay at your feet if you are in a chair.   He does not like stairs, however, and will not follow his foster family to the basement.
Fergy will bring you a toy in his mouth but maybe fetch it once.  He does like tennis balls for chewing!  Fergy is working on his basic obedience and leash walking.  He comes when called and is learning his name.

Foster Update: 8/26/11
Ferguson has lost 4 pounds…whoo hoo!  He was at the vet’s for a checkup and does have some arthritis, but his ongoing weight loss and supplements will help along with regular exercise, walks, and even swimming.  His ears and urinary tract infection have cleared up and his hot spots are healing as well.  Ferguson is on the road to recovery and is ready to find his furever home!

fence Ferguson needs to have a fenced environment and would benefit with some obedience training.schoolbus

Remember Me

Bella

Remember Me? Bella

Hi my name is Bella and I asked my mom to send some pictures to you. I am having a great time and love my new home and my new mom. I have been learning how to sit/stay, down/stay, come, off, leave it, walk on the leash, jump, touch, retrieve my ball, and lots more. This learning is fun but I still have trouble remembering it all the time.

I know I will get better it just takes practice. This weekend mom says I am going to learn how to stay in my yard. Then I will be able to run around and chase the ball without having a leash on. I am really good at barking and letting mom know I have to go outside. That's good, cause I get to enjoy the fresh air each time. I also have met my best friend Obie.
