Page 1 of 2 Sunny's story is heart wrenching. She was hit by a car and ended up in a shelter for 5 days with a broken leg and other injuries and no medical care.
We give our thanks to all the generous people who donated to GRIN on behalf of Sunny. To date, her medical expenses totalled over $1,600 and GRIN was able to cover the cost in full, thanks to her sponsors. Sunny is doing very well and will soon be adopted. Tim H. Rose N. May 14, 2006 - Update from the foster family We dropped off Sunny at the clinic on the morning of April 28 and Dr. Lee removed the exterior device under light sedation. We picked Sunny up that evening and brought her home. He said her leg is healing well; she just needs another 4-6 weeks for it to be where he'd like it to be, so we're to continue to keep her activity under control.April 25, 2006 - Update from the foster family The Dr. said Sunny's leg is looking very good. We will have a follow up appointment in 4 weeks at which time he thinks he'll be able to take off the exterior device.I stopped by my office on the way back, since one of the coworkers there had mentioned she'd like to see Sunny. Sunny was just the model citizen - sitting for people to pet her! She did great on the elevator both up and down. April 10, 2006 - Update from the foster family Sunny had her first follow up visit to the vet on Wed., April 5. X-rays showed the healing of her leg is progressing. The Dr. told us, though, that the external fixation device might be on for another 8 weeks yet. (Evidently we had not fully grasped the seriousness of her injury or the complexity of the surgery). She did great on the trip and visit. I thought she might be reluctant to go into the vet clinic, but she did fine. She sat at my feet while we were waiting and then laid down! She is definitely showing signs that she is feeling better. She's more animated when she greets everyone in the morning; her appetite has picked up, and she is showing a playful side. Also, with the medication and daily brushing her coat is looking much better. Sunny loves to be outside with us when we're in the yard. If someone goes out and she doesn't get to go along, she does a little whine while she walks around to let us know she'd like to be with them. We discovered, too, that she has a cute little "gruff" in response to the command to "speak". She and our teen daughter have formed a mutual admiration society since day one. Our daughter says Sunny is a "pampered Princess", but she does her share of giving love and attention to Sunny! March 23, 2006 - Update from the foster family Sunny has done so well since we picked her up from the vet on Saturday. She has adapted to our home and is very well mannered, gentle and eager to please. What a sweetheart! She cooperates with taking her medications, takes treats so gently and seems to like being groomed and of course petted and loved on. Sunny is very taken with us and we are smitten with her. My daughter was home sick on Monday and when I left for work, Sunny was in her room, snuggled up in bed with her - both fast asleep. She is a very special dog. She is getting around amazingly well and for the most part has been quiet and resting per the doctors orders. She seems to be healing very quickly. March 19, 2006 Sunny was picked up by her foster family yesterday. Click here to see the photo's of a very happy Sunny and foster family. March 16, 2006 After speaking to the veterinary staff yesterday, we have determined that Sunny will need to be in a foster home with no other dogs since the pin in her leg extends outside of the skin. She is very quiet, able to move around some and doing quite well under the circumstances. We appreciate all the concern for and interest in Sunny. Please keep watching this page for further updates. March 8, 2006 Sunny's story is heart wrenching. She was hit by a car and ended up in a shelter for 5 days with a broken leg and other injuries and no medical care. Her owner was located, but sadly had to relinquish Sunny because they felt they could not cover her medical expenses. Despite being in obvious pain, Sunny did not cry or flinch during her transport to the vet's office. There, they will do surgery to insert a pin in her leg and handle other minor injuries. Sunny now finds herself wounded and homeless. This sweetie will need a peaceful home where she will be loved and nurtured back to health. Sunny is known to be great with kids, other dogs and likes the game of chase with cats, but doesn't hurt them. If you would like to help and to sponsor Sunny, please use the secure PayPal link to the left. We will have updates on her condition as soon as they become available. Update from the vet office The surgery to insert a pin in her leg went well and everyone at the office is falling in love with her. The x-rays revealed no damage to any of her joints or her hips and the stitches from her previous ear injury were removed and that is healing nicely.
