River and Jasper (fka Casper) came to us in November of 2006. Jasper was just eight months old, and River about three years. They were fostered together and we were encouraged to adopt both because the two got along so well. HA! The reality was that we had WWE-style Smackdown at the Millers all day, every day. Until recently, those two did NOT EVER stop wrestling, chasing, fighting, and biting each other! (Now they take breaks.) Smackdown aside, we all have a pretty good time. River has lost some of the chronically worried look on his face; I like to think it is because he knows he has a home with us. He loves his walks with Bob and his morning coffee. (Really - watch your cup. He prefers cream and sugar.) River is a fabulous swimmer and makes sure that the geese stay on their own side of our pond, and he loves to fetch sticks and toys in the water. He is an excellent "supervisor" in Bob's office and expects be on the payroll soon. Jasper loves everything and everybody and could play all day. Oh wait, he does play all day. Is there such a thing as doggy ADHD? Jasper has been a great exercise buddy, jogging up to 11 miles helping me train for a half-marathon. He loves the snow and we get plenty of that up here - a couple of hours of me on snowshoes and Jasper leaping through deep snow is the only thing I know that tires him out. He loves water and jumps a good 12' into the pond from a standing start, and will fetch anything you throw until your arm falls off. (or until he gets distracted by something else.) We used to think he slept with his eyes open but now we realize that he just didn't sleep - he didn't want to miss anything. He really is a lovable nut! We adore them both and thank G.R.I.N. and their foster family for taking care of them and all the Goldens!
