Daisy Belle and Beau
Christmas 2009 will go down in history as one of the most emotional ever. Last fall, my husband and I decided that it was time to begin the adoption process through GRIN rescue of Ohio of another golden retriever.
Our golden Maggie, 13 and ½ years old, had been rescued as had been our Molly, a 16 yr old beagle/corgi mix. We wanted to let our older girls help teach a new family member; while a bit on the elderly side, our two girls were both active and healthy, or so we thought. After a series of serendipitous events, we were matched with a beautiful baby girl whom we named Daisy.
Daisy settled in immediately and became friends right away with Maggie. When we took Daisy and Maggie for their first and annual checkups respectively, little did we know that life would change radically and quickly. After testing, Maggie was discovered to have advanced cancer. Then, when we came home from learning that sad news, we received a call from GRIN, telling us that Daisy’s littermate had been refused by his match (we’d met him when we picked up Daisy) and asking if we were interested. We decided that it might be best for all concerned if Daisy had her brother to play with, thus leaving Maggie in peace, so we went and got Beau.
Maggie crossed the rainbow bridge on Dec. 29th. And while losing her has broken our hearts, every day we are comforted by two loving, active puppies. We feel that fate was guiding this entire process, bringing the puppies to us just when we needed them most. Beau and Daisy are our amazing Christmas miracles and they bring joy every second of every day. We are so grateful to GRIN for their careful adoption process and for making this miracle possible.
