Finding the right Golden Retriever starts here
When a dog enters GRIN, we’re committed to finding the home where they’ll be safe, loved, and truly part of the family. We get to know each dog in a real home environment so we can understand who they are, what they need, and where they’ll thrive. When the right match happens, it’s not just an adoption — it’s a fresh start for both of you.
About the Breed
Is a golden retriever right for you?
Golden retrievers are incredible companions. They’re affectionate, smart, and deeply connected to their people. But they’re not low-maintenance.
They need daily exercise, mental stimulation, and consistent attention. They want to be part of your life — not just nearby.
If you’re ready for that kind of relationship, there’s nothing better.
The adoption process
Adopting a dog is a big, meaningful decision. We don’t rush it — and we don’t expect you to either. Our process is built to make sure both you and your future dog feel safe, supported, and set up for success from day one.
Step 1
Apply
Tell us about your home, your lifestyle, and what you’re looking for. This helps us start thinking about the right fit.
Step 2
Vet check & conversation
We’ll connect with your vet and have a quick conversation to learn more about your experience and answer any questions.
Step 3
Home visit
One of our volunteers will visit your home — not to judge, but to make sure it’s a safe and comfortable space for a dog.
Step 4
Finding the right match
This is where the magic happens. We look at everything — your lifestyle, the dog’s personality, their needs — and work to find the best fit, not just the fastest one.
Step 5
Meet & greet
You’ll meet the dog in their foster home, where they’re most comfortable. It’s a chance for everyone — humans and dogs — to get to know each other.
Step 6
Welcome home
If it feels right for everyone, we’ll finalize the adoption and help you bring your new family member home.
Step 7
We’re still here
Our support doesn’t end on adoption day. We’re here if you need guidance, reassurance, or just someone to check in with.
